The common starling has adapted to occupy many different environments both urban and rural. Their ability to exploit a niche in the ecosystem has made this highly adaptable bird an expert at finding ways into buildings. Being able to do this means they can take advantage of circumstances wherever they arise, this often brings them into conflict with people due to the size of colonies and the mess associated with there roosting behaviour in large groups or flocks. Although doing well in many parts of the UK the common starling has declined in other areas and this has led to the starling being placed on the red list.
Starlings are a big problem for businesses as well as in domestic situations. Starlings can be a public health problem and large starling flocks do not look good on a business from a customer or investors point of view. Starlings carry an array of diseases including salmonella and Chlamydiosis.
