Due to continued growth, we are seeking a new person to join our Edinburgh and Lothians Falconry and Pest Team.

****FALCONRY EXPERIENCE ESSENTIAL***

This position is a mixture of hawking, bird control and pest control duties which provides year round employment within the industry.

Pest Control experience is not necessary as full training will be provided however due to the nature of working with birds, this element of the role is essential.

Position will be based around Edinburgh and the Lothians with occasional work further afield.

Job Specification and Requirements

  • Technician requires to be qualified or become qualified in BPCA / RSPH level 2 in Pest Management.
  • Full and valid drivers licence required.
  • Due to working with vulnerable people a Disclosure Scotland Certificate (or equivalent). This can be applied for during the application process, with job offer pending on arrival of clean disclosure certificate.
  • You will need to be eligible for an airgun licence.
  • Competent written & verbal communication skills.
  • Confident and assertive with a positive outlook, with flexible work ethic is essential.

Responsibilities and Objectives

  • Bird control in the form of falconry and/or culls in various locations across the region.
  • To carry out in-depth and detailed pest control service routines to clients premises and competently report on all findings and recommendations.
  • To service moth pots, EFK units and other pest control areas during routines and report of findings and recommendations as required.
  • To liaise with clients at all levels in order to discuss their on-going pest control requirements.
  • The ability to spot potential issues, additional requirements and promote new works as opportunities arise.
  • To attend training sessions and collect CPD points.
  • To be flexible in the case of emergency pest control call outs.

Signs of Cockroaches

Cockroaches in the UK can be found in a variety of industrial, agricultural and domestic environments.

You may come across signs such as:

  • A strong sour smell
  • Faecal spotting
  • Egg cases

Distribution

Cockroaches can be found throughout the whole of the UK both in urban and rural areas. We have found that a large amount of our domestic and commercial call outs are for cockroaches in cities. Across our service areas, cockroach numbers appear to be on the rise, particularly in highly populated areas.

Eliminate Limited has eradicated Cockroaches in lots of different properties, including agricultural, commercial and domestic, throughout Scotland.

Treatment

Our Technicians are highly skilled in treating infestations, having both the experience and training needed to control these crawling insects.

Insect screening can go a long way to help with issues in commercial and domestic premises and there are also cockroach traps available that will help keep cockroaches under control.

Species Identification

The three main species of cockroaches encountered in Scotland are The German Cockroach, Oriental Cockroach and the American Cockroach.

The German cockroach is yellowish brown around 12 -15mm long and winged (tend not to fly). Long antennae and long spiny legs.

The Oriental Cockroach is Dark brown and is between 17 – 30mm long. Having only partial wings or buds it is incapable of flight. Long flexible antenna with well developed spikey legs.

The American cockroach is brown or reddish in colouration and measures between 25 – 40mm.
